A beautiful pair of vintage Taxco Sterling Silver thick triangular earrings for sale. Few cities on the planet are as known for silversmithing as Taxco, Mexico. Due to the proximity of prolific silver mines the city became known for the artisans who made jewelry from the local silver.
One of the earrings is stamped with a maker's mark and the "925" for the Sterling Silver metal purity. Pieces from the Taxco region are often stamped “TAXCO” or sometimes simply with the letter “T” at the beginning of the signature. The second letter of the signature represents the initial of the last name of the artisan, and the number following is the sequential number assigned to that artisan. So “TH-38”, as in this piece, indicates a Taxco artisan whose last name begins with the letter “H” who happens to be the 38th artisan who registered with the letter “H.” The piece tests well for Sterling Silver as well.
The pair of earrings weigh 15 grams combined. They are slightly over 1 and 1/2 inches tall. They are 1 and 1/4 inches at their widest.
